Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there in LJ land!!!
A mother may not be someone who actually gave birth to you, or even who brought you up, it can be a person who was 'motherly' towards you in whatever form that took.. a friend, another relative or even an animal and today is that day to celebrate that!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today was also the day that I sang in public for the FIRST TIME! As you can imagine I was VERY nervous.. especially as I only actually learnt the words, and started practicing 'Ave Maria' three days ago! Luckily for Me, I have a knack for languages and also know how to project My voice due to My acting and performance background so I didn't need the microphone to reach the back of the hall and I already knew the words to the other song We did - 'Where is Love' from the musical 'Oliver'. The thing that concerned Me most was showing Perseus up by screwing it up somehow.. hitting a wrong note or missing My cue, but I managed to avoid both of these.
When We arrived at church darklord_rising and thedarklords were already there waiting for Us so they got a few previews as We practiced with the pianist. It was good to have their support as seeing friendly faces always makes a difference when One is about to perform.
We did 'Where is Love' first, then later on, 'Ave Maria'. I only raised My eyes a couple of times and darent look at the audience in case someone's expression put Me off but Perseus informed Me that a few of the watchers had their hands over their hearts while We sang. I was a lot more relaxed than I felt it seems as My voice didn't get that shake that people's often does when they are nervous, even though My legs were as still as boards! It was a truly beautiful moment, when Our voices joined together.. they mesh SO well.
So, I did it! My first public performance singing! After that, We went for a much needed break at Starbucks with the Dark Lord and Bella. :-)
We have another lined up for Father's Day so will be starting practice for then too as We plan to do 'Pie Jesu' and 'Pieta Signore' so wish Me luck!
I want to thank alabastard SO much for all the support and love He has shown Me since We first came up with the idea of a duet.. without it, I could not have done this so thank You My Beloved.
Happy Mothers Day to all you Mothers, and MoFos too! ;-) I will get to the comments from My last post tonight, but I just HAD to post how proud I am of alabastardragon, and how He absolutely aced His first time singing in public.
I know He was nervous, that's natural, but He never showed it. I knew He'd be fine, as I've been singing with Him all along, I know He's good, and I have all the confidence in the world in Him; if He wasn't ready, I'd never have brought Him up there, that would be cruel, but He's a natural and was more than ready.
It's funny, I was going to teach Him to sing, but I never did, never needed to outside of some song specific coaching in Latin, which He picked up right away. He's a very quick study, listens well, and He possesses a natural countertenor singing voice; like Me, He can sing in the soprano range, in great contrast to His deep speaking voice. He's got a gorgeous, pure tone, agile and expressive, and has the musical instincts of someone with much, much more training. I was a choirboy with excellent training and I know I can sing with just about anyone, but if this is where He's starting, I can't wait to see what will develop with time, training, and more singing, it boggles the mind.
We arrived early and rehearsed in the church with the pianist, and the_darklords and darklord_rising were there to listen. The church is a very nice space, a Masonic Hall with amazing acoustics, and We had that same eerie merging of voices that I'd been hearing in Our rehearsing at home and in the car, only it literally flooded the church. No microphones for Us, in fact I can't understand why anyone would want to use a microphone in a hall like this, it's overkill, We both project Our voices very well.
We had selected Our two solos with Mothers Day in mind, Where is Love from Oliver. and the more traditional Schubert Ave Maria. As We sang, I often would look out over the congregation, and everyone was smiling, eyes closed or tearing up, and many had their hands on their hearts. That's the best kind of feedback, as You know it's genuine. It went very well, it felt right, and Our voices and words meshed perfectly to make one sound, though both voices could be heard, He was right there with Me. Did I mention how proud I am of Him? So many came up to Us to thank Us, and many said We gave them chills.
We are singing again Sunday June 15, Fathers Day, and lesetchka is going to be there as well for that one. We're doing Pie Jesu and another song, thinking Pieta Signore, I have a few ideas. We're going to be working on some two part work on the Schubert as well as Bach-Gounod Ave Maria, and many other pieces as He's ready, working up to selections from the Pergolesi Stabat Mater and other selections that fit Our voices.
We may also begin to write some original music in several genres, it's been ages since I've done that, and I will use both My high and deep chest voice as We go along, I like singing in both voices.
This is so exciting.
This is close to what We wore. It was great to hang out later chatting with thedarklords and darklord_rising. Now for a rest, then off to the IMAX to celebrate.
On a good note, WATERFIRE! opens on the 24th, hurrah!
On a not so good note, We're going to miss The Cure on Monday, it just crept up on Us, and I didn't see any notification, not to mention the tickets are well overpriced for where the available seats are, and Monday? Just why, not all fans of this ilk live in a lair in their parents basement or above the garage. It's bad enough I can't go dancing anymore because any viable night is on a night before I have to rise at 4:30 for work. I've seen The Cure many times from the early days to their many "farewell" tours, but I really wanted to take Draco.
Oh well, on a random note, alabastardragon found some Cell Tech on E-bay for $20 when it normally goes for close to $80, and Blue Raspberry flavour I've never seen, one that does NOT taste like liquid sweet tarts! It's the one of the best workout and strength supplements I've ever used and I am glad to have some again. He can find anything on there, and has saved Me a small fortune.
******
Tomorrow Draco and I make Our singing debut as a duet at the Spiritualist Church, singing the Schubert Ave Maria and Where is Love from Oliver in honour of Mothers Day. Next Month, on Father's Day, We're doing Pie Jesu and Pieta Signore, and We'll build Our repetoire from there. He's a natural musically, with a beautiful natural countertenor voice that is expressive and always on pitch, it's a pleasure to teach Him music and watch as He develops, just like in dance. It's eerie, when We sing together, Our voices blend so well that a single silvery ringing tone emerges much of the time. I don't blend with many singers, have always been a soloist, so this is very exciting.
******
alabastardragon posted an excellent article on CFS in His journal, and it's a rare public entry, so check it out. To all the selfish ignorants who loved to taunt that it's all in His head, I would wish this illness on You, You wouldn't last a day with what He goes through. Just because He's strong and willful and doesn't whine or wear His pain on His sleeve, many wouldn't even know how bad it can be, but I live with it and only wish I could do so much more for Him.
******
We saw Swan Lake by the Boston Ballet last night, I heard it was to be their final performance of this particular ballet, or version. It's one of My favourite ballets, I love a good story ballet, where ballet and acting mesh, and they did a lovely job. I found the man playing Prince Siegfried less than stellar, he was a last minute substitute and lacked a noble presence, fell clumsily out of his grand pirouettes, and landed most of his jumps in a stiff and ugly manner, but he got better as the show went on, and also had many beautiful moments and elegant, controlled turns. He was an excellent partner to Odile and Odette, who were both right on and just gorgeous, musical dancers who clearly conveyed the swan mystique. Von Rothbart was quick and menacing and a beautiful jumper, and the ballroom set was especially lovely. We were both tired after two long and busy weeks, but it was worth it to get out and see this show.
No small coincidence that the gorgeous costumery onstage had me longing for a society where people weren't afraid to dress to the nines and live with style, where people weren't shamed by their own personal beauty ... where it would no longer be an eccentricity to be out dressed in elegant suits, flowing robes, draped in elegant fabrics, where We wouldn't have to go to "costume" balls to dress up. What passes for dressed up these days is usually embarrassing to obscene, people have forgotten how to dress up, and much like the newer buildings, have become boring and utilitarian, sapping all the joy, colour, life, and ritual formality out of society. I am all about ritual formality, and I for one do NOT wish for a touchy feely society of no boundaries, and bland yet entitled peasant slobs day after day. I'm so not digging this new slob chic, have some pride, comfort and looking good are not mutually exclusive.
Elitist? Hell yes! Flaunt it people, work what you have. I'll never tire of dressing up and going out, it makes the event special when we look our best, dressing up shows respect for those who have worked so hard on the performance.
More to post for another day, in this and My other Malfoy lj, not off to bed now so We're rested for the singing tomorrow. Toodles.
This will probably be x-posted to my dA journal, because more people read my stuff over there. But I might not, just for the sake of not spamming my dA watchers... But I don't know right now.
So, as the title implies, this journal is about by fucktard manager Tom. And I am not only saying this because I hate him. My hate is fully justified. And oh yes, it's full out hate.
Tonight was probably the worst night of working of my entire life. Allow me to tell you why.
Tom was our manager. He's an idiot. Point blank, no arguments can be made for him. He starts off the night okay- he's just being impatient. "OMGWTFBBQ!!!1!one!11 THAT DRIVETHRU ORDER HAS BEN UP THERE 4 TEN SECS U DUNT HAV IT YET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" Honestly, he yelled at me because I didn't have a Tendercrisp done in thirty seconds. It takes fifteen just to get the bun.
Any good manager would keep specialty on its own until at least 8, when things start to settle down. He has me breaking up specialty at 630. When Bernie starts to tell him that he can't do that, that it's a bad idea, he starts yelling at her, telling her in not so many words to learn her place. That goes on for the rest of the night.
I don't get a break until I ask for one. If I hadn't asked, he wouldn't have even given me one until me going on break would've fucked up everything. Not that he didn't do that already.
He finally gave Kati her break at about five minutes to 8. Randy and Dustin were off at 8. When they got off, it was only me and Bernie in the kitchen. Bernie can't make sandwiches. So in reality, it was only me on board making ALL the food people order. With no help at all. Except for one Classic that Clint came back (on his own) to make, because I was taking so long. Tom wasn't about to give me any help, even though he had three people up there including himself doing the work that he only needed two for.
Add onto that the fact that he's giving everyone the wrong orders because he can't wait for me to make the right order.
When Kati gets back off of break, I'm like "Okay, maybe things will go a little more smoothly". Nope, no such luck. He starts handing out even more wrong orders, and then yells at us saying we're not making the right food. We're out of burger wrappers, and we don't have time to go get more, but yet he starts yelling at us to put them in the correct wrappers. But he, of course, can't waste twenty seconds to get them for us because we're busy. He has to stay up front and push orders that the people on register could have easily done.
Also: Both when I was alone, and when I was with Kati, he wouldn't let Erin or Clint stop taking orders so we could get the first orders done and have them pushed. He made sure that orders kept coming, and got mad if anyone stopped. Because, y'know, apparently things run smoother if you have a person waiting five minutes in drive-thru for an order because there are three cars in front of him. Plus, he doesn't like to park people. He didn't park anyone when I was alone, so we had crappy times upwards of three minutes because I couldn't make five orders at once.
He's also a racist fuck. Someone came to the back to give Bernie something she needed. I don't remember what. Obviously this guy was Spanish. When Clint came over to tell Bernie a guy wanted to talk to her, Tom had the gall to say, out loud, "Don't let people like them in, they'll shoot everyone." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! I would be more likely to shoot up Burger King than Bernie's friends. And I seriously wanted to, with Tom there being a ignorant asshole.
Oh, and another thing... The dining room closes at 10. When I left, I had to quick run back in to get the sketchbook I borrowed from Hollie. I almost couldn't get back in because the door was locked. We're not allowed to close up the dining room before ten. On top of that, all the lights were off outside. To deter customers? It obviously didn't work, but he's not allowed to do that, either.
OH ALSO! That asshole yelled at me like I was doing something wrong, because Randy was nearly breaking my wrist trying to wipe up some BBQ sauce on his board with my hand. So not only did my wrist kill for the next hour, I had to deal with him asking me what the hell I was doing, and yelling at me for not doing my work. THE FUCK? YELL AT RANDY FOR BEING AN ASSHOLE, YOU SEXIST FUCK!
I think I'm going to come in early tomorrow to work, just so I can write Tom up. He's already been written up once. With all the shit I have on him just thanks to last night, I'm sure I can get him fired. I hope I do. I hope upon hope that I do. He doesn't deserve to be a manager with the shit he pulls. He's just like a Posner. His last day he'll be a psycho and make everyone more miserable than he did tonight. I just know it.
I'm glad I'm only working until five tomorrow. I would kill myself if I had to work another night shift with that idiot.
4/6/08 I stepped out of the school building and walked with a quickened pace to my car. No need to waste time, all I had my mind set on was getting home. Rushing out of the building every day; never staying to associate with anybody. When I had finally reached my car, I threw my book in the back seat, and then carelessly left my bag on top. I got in the driver's seat when I saw a certain somebody run to my car. "Hey I'm going to Milbury today, do you wanna come?" Rob had asked as I looked at my empty tank of gas. "I don't know man, I got little gas" I replied. "It's alright; you can ride in my car if you like" He had asked me to chill the night before, it was a bit too late in the day for my taste. I guess it took me a decent chunk of time to realize he just wanted the same thing I did. Coincidentally we stopped at X-tra mart for the same reason I do. :/
Yesterday I spent the majority of the afternoon with Juan and then we eventually met up with Randy and Erin. I'm glad we decided to chill, I got to learn a bit more about Juan and how much more we have in common. It's pretty crazy; we are kinda in the same situation with the relationship issue. However, him and Randy pretty much talked that right out of me.
I'll have an update to the week coming soon, and platinum_malfoy has something in the works, but ...
I sure didn't expect to be posting about a racehorse tonight, I just don't usually care enough, but...
We've been so very busy this week, and so tonight We thought We'd sit down for a relaxing viewing of the Kentucky Derby. It's always a spectacle. I have to admit to a fascination, I just love to watch horses in flight, the next best thing to riding horses in flight.
I don't bet money on horses, so I tend to pick horses in a most unscientific manner, based on their looks and presence. The favourite and eventual winner bore the unfortunate name of Big Brown, evoking a turd in My mind, and Draco and I were both taken with the unusual beauty of the lone filly, Eight Belles, a tall, rare steel grey, beautifully built with a glorious light tail like a carousel horse. Even rarer, a filly taking on the colts, rarely done in American thoroughbred racing, but this filly was something special, and now this filly is dead. She ran her heart out to finish second in a field of 20 top horses, but she broke down just after crossing the line, snapping both front legs, just sickening. To watch the winners jumping around and celebrating as this was going on was somewhat surreal, but that's racing.
Here is the story link, with a heartbreaking photo, so I put it in a link to leave the choice to you to read or not. I've deal with so many horse deaths and accidents, it happens, but this one, truly a tragedy. That filly ran her heart out and ran an incredible race, and gave her life for it.
She is best remembered as the picture of strength and elegance that she was.
I do like horse racing, I exercised steeplechasers ages ago, most on the beach and over grass tracks, and even raced in some amateur point to points, it's pure flight and unforgettable, and exciting to watch.
However, two and three year olds are just too young for the kind of strain they bear, they are babies, still developing, they look and act young, their incredibly muscular, highly conditioned bodies borne at speed on long spindly legs, racing over hard, unforgiving dirt tracks at an age when most other horses still haven't worn a saddle, grass tracks are looked down upon here for some reason, and few of these horses race past 4 here, retired when they are just coming into their own. No one can convince Me that is sporting. My heart does go out to her trainer, the good ones do the best they can with their charges given some pretty difficult challenges.
LITTLE BRITAIN is coming back, and the latest version is coming here to the US, and thankfully they seem to have retained some of the better characters. I hope they don't force then to speak with American accents or anything like that, how dreadful that would be. The show is called Little BRITAIN, and that is what makes it funny, just let it be British.
LITTLE BRITAIN!
I am off work for the rest of the week, which is going to be a medical marathon for alabastardragon and I will be there as support through every test. We've finally got some incredible doctors on Our team, and hopefully there will be answers, and actions, but you can read all about it on His journal, as it's His story to tell. Ritual later, for this the eve of May, to bring in some real spring weather.
******
I've had these surveys and tags for far too long, so here we go, and methinks platinum_malfoy might be doing a survey Himself tonight, so look for it, it's always amusing if anything ....
Now...
Tagged ages by jennclack:
Each player of this game starts off with TEN weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself. muahahahaha, I tag ... ALL OF YOU!
1) I can lift My leg 180 degrees to vertical and do the splits easily, have been able since being forced into a split in early martial arts study. I’m not exceptionally flexible otherwise, in fact, though once deemed double jointed as a kid, I tend to be tight in build and have to stretch regularly to stay this limber. 2) Cheese curls, cheesy poofs, doritos, or any of those horrid orange coloured cheese food, they smell of dirty sweaty feet to Me, and I can’t be in the same room as them. Some of you are well familiar with this ;-)
3) I can still sing in My choirboy soprano, which contrasts greatly with My speaking voice. It is not falsetto like most countertenors, and it's even more agile than My "real" singing voice, it's the boy’s singing voice that just never left Me, and I can switch with ease back and forth, bass baritone to the soprano effortlessly and instantly. I don’t question it, for whether by skill or sheer will, it’s a gift, and I need to honour it. I tend to hold tension in My shoulders and throat, so now that so many of the stresses in life that used to anger Me and hold Me back are gone, My natural aptitude for singing, speaking, and all sorts of voices is back. You'll know when I am in a bad place, My voice is either a whisper or a boom.
4) It is almost impossible for Me to cry or shed tears normally, but when I am sensing something in the spiritual realm, one of the signs they are getting through is that I "feel" a grinding sound and buzzing sensation in My head, and My eyes tear up. It's how I know when it's real.
5) I burnt My fingertips in a cooking grease accident as a child, and years of martial arts iron hands training didn’t help much later on. They peel regularly and are always reddish, and in the cold I have no feeling in the tips, but luckily I can always grow the nails of doooom. 6) I have extra hard teeth and have never had a cavity, though My gums are extra sensitive, anything sweet gives my pain and a headache. Add in the fangs, and you'd best look out! I wore a headgear for a year to preserve My fangs, it was high school, and didn’t that ever make Me cool, new kid, strange accent, androgynous, headgear. I learned to fight, lets say that ;-) 7) I have a collection of swords, daggers, and other archaic weaponry, some you’ll see, some not. I am not a fan of guns, though I've had training, I'd rather live and die by My own means.
8) I love to fly and would have been a pilot if not for oversensitive eyes. I will try anything to soar, and I love being in the sky. I will not bungee jump, however, I know too much about bungee cords, and it's falling not soaring, I don't much like falling.
9) I collect old books on surgical practices and oddities, as well as beautifully bound literature. I collect ornate, magical artifacts and decor, furniture of favourite periods, though I long ago ran out of room for new additions, which is good for My bank account, anyway.
10) I have broken My tailbone three times in two years, but outside of that, I've pulled a bunch of muscles over the years, been trampled by more than a few horses when I worked steeplechasers and trained young horses and the horses no one else wanted to ride. I have bursitis and tendonitis in My elbows and chronic knee pain, probably from wear and tear and dancing. Not bad for an ex stuntman though.
I'm madly in love with this girl as cliché as it sounds. I'm never there for her when she needs me. She hates almost everything about me. She is convinced that I lie to her. I've said horrible things about her behind her back. She makes me feel like shit... a lot. She has a future, while I'm headed nowhere. She told me she'd go to prom with me, then she blew me off. I've made sacrifices that I really shouldn't talk about.
All so I can hear this once in a while:
GraySkyMorning55 (5:26:18 PM): thats how happy Dan made me
:(
Sad thing is, I'm taking time to complain about this.
